Post-recording notes
Mary Kirchoff
When talking about Mary Kirchoff, we mention that she pulled The Crystal Shard out of a slush pile when it was actually another of Salvatore's manuscripts. That manuscript eventually led to him being commissioned by TSR to write The Crystal Shard. Our bad!
Villichi
While recording, Lyssa brought up a good point of male equivalency during our discussion of villichi. I read through the Dark Sun Monstrous Compendium Appendix I + II to see if there were any male-only priests and male-only monsters. There are not.
I also looked for instances of any other monsters/races “maturing rapidly” and found a couple of monsters that share this trait: Athasian sloths and sligs. Both are more animalistic than humanoid and have more than one sex.
Villichi remain the only female-exclusive NPC race in Dark Sun, but they are not the only female-only “monster” in D&D history. It’s still super weird that they made a point to say villichi “mature rapidly” when most races should do that in such a harsh environment.
